Zane Curtis Smith

On February 17, 2009 at 6:21am, God blessed us with a baby boy Zane Curtis Smith weighing 5 pounds, 7 ounces, and 18 inches long. My actual labor was only about 2-3 hours and I had an epidural for 2 hours of it (which I slept for most of the 2 hours). Although he is such a little guy, he is healthy and his doctor is very happy with how he is doing. Joshua's parents were here for a week and my mom is here for 3 weeks, so we have lots of much appreciated help. Kylee is very excited to have her little brother finally home and is adjusting to sharing mommy and daddy with someone else. Zane seems a lot more laid back than Kylee was, but only time will tell!! Thank you all for your prayers for our little Zane Curtis.

Here I am at 38 weeks (1 1/2 days before Zane was born).

Update on Zane

I went in for an ultrasound and doctor's appointment. Zane wouldn't cooperate very well and turn his head so they could get a good measurement of it and also measure the rest of him so they could tell how much he was weighing. But as far as they could tell, he had gained at least a few ounces which they said was enough for him to stay in for now. Yea! We go again on Friday, but just for a non stress test. Thank you all for you prayers.

Conversation with Kylee

Here was a conversation that I had with Kylee this morning.

Kylee: "Mommy, what did you do to your hair?"

Me: "I didn't do it yet. It's still a mess."

Kylee: "I can see that!"

She is only 3! What is she going to be like when she is a teenager?!

Prayer request for baby Zane

Last Tuesday, I went in for my 34 week checkup and when they weighed me and measured my belly, there wasn't any growth since my last appointment two weeks before, so my doctor decided that I needed an ultrasound. They found out that Zane was measuring and weighing at 31 weeks, so then they did a non stress test. My doctor said that the placenta and fluids looked fine and that Zane looked fine, but he was just concerned because I had been growing consistently and then all the sudden I didn't. His gut feeling was that Zane was fine and maybe just smaller (taking after Josh's side maybe), but wanted me to go and see a specialist on Wednesday. So, on Wednesday at the specialist's office, they did another long ultrasound and then the doctor came in and did another one. He agreed with Dr. Hill about everything looking ok, but did not know why all the sudden Zane was not growing like he had been all along. At the moment, the placenta was fine but he was concerned that maybe the reason of his size was the placenta wasn't allowing enough blood flow through to the baby. So now, I have to check his movements 3 times a day, go for an ultrasound once a week, a non stress test twice a week, and they will induce labor in 3 weeks if all has gone well up until then.

My nature is to stress and worry (which I have been working on not doing), but I am actually at peace about everything. I'm glad that God is the one in control. I have had a few friends that have told me that this has happened to someone they know and everything turned out fine. I am just happy that I live now when technology is so much better and even if Zane came right now, he would be just fine. I would just like prayers that he grows like he should and can stay in me at least for 3 more weeks. The only thing that stresses me out a little is that each time I go to the doctors in the next 3 weeks, they might send me directly to the hospital. That's kinda crazy. Guess I should pack my bag sometime soon, huh?

34 weeks

I am 35 weeks today (I'll try to take a picture later), but here is a picture from last week. Kylee and her friend Gracie have been pretending once in awhile that their bellies are getting bigger because they are pregnant, too! Kylee decided to get in the picture with me and stick out her stomach. After my picture, I got one of Kylee by herself. I should have asked her how many weeks she was!!!

Catching up (Part 2)

From Iowa, we went to Minnesota to see my sister and her family for a few days. My parents were also there visiting, so we were able to spend some time with them, too. Here are a few pictures from our time there. It snowed all day one of the days that we were there, so I was really happy about that. I love snow and miss it now that we live in Louisiana.

Kylee & Kade

My aunt & uncle and two cousins came up to visit one night so here is all of us girls plus Kade

Here's the guys

My mom and dad bought shirts for the 4 youngest grandkids that matched. Kylee and DJ called them cousin shirts!

DJ & Kylee making gingerbread trains

For Christmas this year, I got in the creative mood and made some of the gifts.

I made this shoulder bag for my sister.

I had some material left over so I made myself a purse. Ok, this wasn't a Christmas gift to myself but I thought I'd through in a picture of it anyway.

Kylee of course wanted one, so off we went to the fabric store and found some cute material for her. I made a couple for her friends too that matched.

I made this tote for Josh's mom for her crochet projects, etc. I had never made anything like it before, so was a little apprehensive about it, surprisingly it was rather easy and didn't take very long to make. I found a great tutorial for a bag and then adapted it from there.

This is a flannel rag quilt that I made for a friend of mine. It was fun and also rather easy to make. I think I'll have to do another one sometime.

Catching up

Sorry, it's been forever since I blogged. Well, here are some pictures from Christmas. On our way to Iowa to spend Christmas with Josh's family, we stopped overnight at our friend's (Jason & Beth) house in Missouri. From Iowa, we went to my sister's house in Minn and spent a few days with them and my parents were also there. There are already going to be quite a few pictures for this post, so I will do another post for the Minnesota leg of the trip.

Christmas morning - Amy, Joanna, Dan, Esther, Joshua, & Kylee (she got princess dress up clothes which she had to try on right away!)

Kylee & Papa - we had freezing rain the night before, so the snowman wasn't as big as Kylee would have liked it to be. :-)
